COVID-19 Quarantine Is Beneficial For Mobile Apps!

As per TV viewership measurement agency BARC India; The total TV consumption has increased by 8% and smartphones went up by 6.2% to 25 hours a week in India.

According to a survey conducted from 14th to 24th March 2020, there were more than 25,000 consumers in 30 markets.

  • WhatsApp leads the rankings with #1 position, a 40% increase in usage is seen as compared to 27%. It is predicted to further rise by 51%.
  • Facebook, Instagram, and Tiktok also saw a 40% increase in the time spent along with sessions per user.
  • Facebook recently shared that total messaging on Facebook Messenger has increased by 50% and the group calls were up by 1000%
  • Dating apps like Hinge, Bumble and Tinder have also seen an increase in new users across the board.
  • The COVID-19 (Coronavirus) pandemic fueled the demand for digital mental health.
  • News apps also witnessed 8% more users per week. Here, users are seen spending 32 minutes daily on an average for reading online news.

However, Travel, food apps suffered a huge drop.

ZOOM Cloud Meetings, top the chart globally. The downloads increased from around 1,70,000 (in February’20) to nearly 2.5 million (in late March’20). The app is used by millions of businesses for work from home, social gatherings, yoga classes, book clubs, online training & webinars, and entertainment concerts.

 

 

Other Business apps like Tencent Conference, WeChat Work, Microsoft Teams and Slack have also seen an increase in downloads. App downloads went from 1.4 million new users across the App Store and Google Play in the first week of January’20 to 6.7 million in the first week of March’20.
